I love an active Advent calendar, for kids especially. This gogonova Advent Calendar Train Building Blocks Set lets you build part of a train each day. 

The little blocks and instructions come with it and are hidden inside the compartments. This is a fun surprise with vibrant, high-quality interlocking pieces and a festive design. 

Now, I need to say this about the calendar size and the value for money, though: When I hear Advent calendar, I assume 24 days. This is only 12. So you could do the 12 days leading up to Christmas, one train piece every other day, or the 12 Days of Christmas starting on Christmas Day. Or just assume you'll forget some days and do it willy nilly whenever you remember during the season!

This is too fun a gift to take off a star, though. I think block-building kids, little and big, will enjoy this surprise set thoroughly.
