I kind of wanted to hate this Avoogue Women's Lightweight Rain Jacket because it's so basic, but it's turned out pretty nice

Basic features:

  • No lining and thin fabric so very lightweight
  • Made of polyester but not coated for additional rain protection
  • No extras like inside pockets, armpit zips, adjustable cuffs, etc.

Nice touches:

  • Peacock blue color is stunning and makes me happy
  • Nice zipper pockets, including a breast pocket
  • Little reflective cords for visibility in traffic
  • Polyester does shed water, for a time

This is a good jacket to pack in a bag (it comes with a small pouch as is) or throw in the car as a backup for unexpected wind and rain. I wouldn't rely on it as a winter jacket in anything but the mildest climates, but it would work great as a spring and summer jacket on windy or drizzly days when you don't want extra warmth.

I wore it on my dog-walking rounds in hopes of hitting some rain to really test it out, but it stayed unseasonably pleasant all day. Temperatures were in the high 40s, so I layered it over a fleece-lined shirt and was plenty warm since I was active. It was comfortable to wear and nice and bright for safety on a gloomy day.

I got my usual XXL and it fit true to size, comfortable and not binding or gapping.

Since I missed out on rain, I poured water over it in the sink, and the polyester shed it right off. I couldn't say how long this effect would last without any additional weatherproof coating, but it should work well for brief showers or misty days.

At $27 at the time of writing this, I think that's a fair price for the quality. If you can spend double, you could get more bells and whistles, so you'll have to decide if basic is good enough.
